Easy Breakfast Biscuits

Fresh baked bread sometimes seems like a novelty, a task better left to whoever had the wise idea to sell unbaked biscuit dough. However, these biscuits take about 20 minutes from start to finish and can be smeared with butter and jam or topped with sausage and gravy (my preference) around the time the eggs finish scrambling.

Preheat oven to 450° F

Speciality items: a biscuit cutter (or just cut them into squares with a butter knife–who cares?)

Makes approximately 8 medium biscuits or 6 larger biscuits. Recipe doubles easily.

In a small bowl mix*:

》1/2 cup milk
》1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

Set milk mixture aside and mix dry ingredients in a bowl

* you can also substitute 1/2 cup buttermilk instead of the milk + apple cider vinegar mix

Mix

》1 cup all purpose flour
》1/2 tbs baking powder
》1/4 tsp baking soda
》1/2 tsp salt

Thoroughly mix into dry ingredients

》3 tbs butter (or shortening), cubed

Add milk mixture to dry ingredients and mix until blended. Do not over mix/knead.

Flatten with hand until about a 1/2 inch thick. Cut and place on baking sheet.

Cook for 10 mins or until brown. Be careful not to overcook.
